A report revealed that 53% of femicides are motivated by gender violence, being the largest reason for crimes against women in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
According to the Fiscales portal, the Prosecutor’s Unit Specialized in Violence against Women (UFEM) was the one who carried out this report that revealed that 53% of femicides are motivated by gender violence.
During this last year, There were 19 intentional homicides of women in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, of which 10 were due to gender violence. The figure is close to that recorded in 2023 and 2024 and is in line with the average number of female victims of intentional homicides in the last decade, which speaks of 20 victims per year between 2015 and 2024.

The proportion of femicides in the total crimes of women in the last year was slightly lower than the historical average. From the UFEM they highlighted that the deployment of gender-based violence remains the main cause of intentional deaths of women in the Buenos Aires territory.

Report on femicides
Furthermore, the report highlights that the average of the victims is around 44 years old, similar to that recorded in the last decade. In these crimes, the use of household knives to perpetrate the femicides stood out.
For its part, the report highlighted that, in 9 of the 10 femicides, the victim and the aggressor maintained a previous relationship, mainly as a couple or family member. In 5 of these cases, the woman was living with the man at the time of the incident.
At the national level, the UFEM published on Friday that sentences for crimes based on gender exceed 370 resolutions throughout the country.
