Health professionals warn about cuts in the Municipal Hospital and health units

medical staff of the Municipal Hospital is on alert for budget reduction that the Municipality applied in recent weeks and they warned of a possible impact on benefits. The association that brings together the workers asks for details about the reasons.

One of the leaders of the CICOP union, Nicolás Muñoz Cruzadosaid that weeks ago “the Municipality stated that the situation was difficult, but that health was a priority.” However, in dialogue with The Newcommented that yesterday operating expenses were applied.

“We are still not sure why, how and why they implemented all of this in this way,” he lamented. And he explained: “Yesterday it was notified through the heads of services and heads of Department that in the hospital there are a series of issues that will not be able to be resolved as normally done because operating expenses decreased“.

The conflict that this situation leaves as a consequence is that “from there come payments to suppliers, supplies and studies that are not done in the hospital. Now they probably have to be used with less amounts than what was used.”

“There will be patients who will not be able to be diagnosed in a timely manner,” he warned.

Although weeks ago there was a meeting between the staff and the authorities, Cruzado announced that they will meet again next week.

Also in health units

Muñoz Cruzado also stated that they were informed by the hospital management “the reduction in overtimewhich are generated because there is a lack of personnel and they are covered by those who are already on staff. “This will have to be reduced and it means that there will be sectors that will not be fully staffed and will bring difficulties in providing care.”

Another of the measures that the commune’s Health area is carrying out, according to the doctor, points to the reduction of hours in the 33 health units.

“Coordinators informed us that the hours extensions were not renewed for many of the professionals and that this causes some health units and centers to reduce their attention time.”

He concluded that “this gives a quite complex panorama based on the fact that the only effector that is providing an adequate response so far is the Municipal hospital.”
