In the midst of a Peronism that has not yet completely closed ranks to confront Milei in Buenos Aires territory, Moreno’s mayor, Mariel Fernández, took the first step to build an option in the Province of Buenos with a chance of defeating La Libertad Avanza, showing herself as an alternative with a view to the governorship in 2027, and calling on Peronism to unity.
Fernández led an event in the Federal Capital, meters from Congress, on the occasion of the inauguration of the political space “Reconquista, Peronism that makes people fall in love again” that included the premiere of a modern premises at Combate de los Pozos 102.
The activity had a massive framework with the arrival of militancy from various social, political and territorial organizations, and presences that showed the initial approval of the national and popular Peronist galaxy for this first step of the mayor of Moreno, one of the most populous municipalities of the Conurbano and one of the electoral strongholds of Peronism in the First Electoral Section.
The event included an audio sent by former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and in that sense Mariel Fernández confirmed Moreno’s full support and Peronist accompaniment to the former head of state, when this Tuesday she is transferred to Comodoro Py to testify in the Cuadernos Case.
From the Buenos Aires governorate, Government Minister Carlos Bianco was present, as were communal leaders of various Peronist lineages such as Gustavo Menéndez (Merlo), Mayra Mendoza (Quilmes) and Federico Otermín (Lomas de Zamora), among others. Several national and provincial legislators from Unión por la Patria attended, such as deputies Jorge Taiana, Paula Penacca, Eduardo Valdés, Fernanda Miño, senator Mariano Recalde, and provincial deputy Noelia Saavedra.
Also attending and sharing the stage with Fernández was the leader of the Evita Movement Emilio Pérsico and his partner and former candidate for mayor of La Matanza, Patricia Cubría. Likewise, the general secretary of the Evita Movement in the Province, Eduardo “El Cholo” Ancona, the former deputy and also Evita leader Leonardo Grosso, as well as the former secretary of Domestic Trade Guillermo Moreno, who currently presides over the Principles and Values party, could also be seen.
Love reconstruction
In this context, Fernández recalled his years of militancy and called to talk about “reconquest and a movement that will make citizens fall in love again.”
“If we think about Pope Francis, he always told us two important things for me: the care of the common home, and that popular movements are social poets. Let’s make noise, comrades. Peronism was born with a love story, the story not only of love for the humble and working people, but with the story of the love of Perón and Evita. And we had another love story, which was also that of Néstor and Cristina. And if we, if we want to rebuild the values of Peronism, we want to support the number of people from our people that this government is discarding, how can Peronism not be a love story and a loving construction?” he reflected.
Fernández also called to put aside the internal ones and become a soldier for the people and with a view to 2027. “I want there to be many and many leaders of Peronism touring the province of Buenos Aires and the country to give an accurate message. Because Peronism also has proposals, which can be supported by leaders who are going to go to the front. And I am willing, as I said once in Moreno, to give my life in the service of this people. I want us to live and have a happy people. and that the military is a fraternity, also a loving construction. Because if we are fighting for the common good, how the hell are we going to fight among ourselves? he claimed.

Also, Moreno’s mayor gave full support to Cristina and called for a unity that surpasses Peronism and expands party horizons. “We do not have to allow persecution of any Peronist leader, because it is in self-defense. I do not want them to mess with any Peronist comrade. But also since this government works for the richest 1% of the population, I say again, there is no one left over here. Anyone who loves this people, whether radical, socialist, a neighbor, a neighborhood party, we need to build a proposal in defense of the Argentine people, in defense of the province of Buenos Aires,” he insisted.
“If we are militants, we are responsible. We cannot be simple spectators and critics of what we do not like. In 2027 I want a Peronist government at the national level and I want a Peronist government in the province of Buenos Aires,” he harangued.
“Fifty years after the coup, we have not lowered a single flag, and that is why we are also going to accompany comrade Cristina, Comodoro Py. As I always tell you, comrades, to fight for who we are we have to deeply love our people. Because no one fights for what they do not love,” he defined.
CFK’s message
Before starting the event, and amidst applause, the crowd heard Cristina’s message. “Hello dear Mariel, how are you? Surely, you are with many colleagues here in CABA, a few blocks from San José 1111. In Combate de los Pozos, inaugurating a new political space for Peronism. Which, ultimately, is always for the Homeland itself. I really, very much like the name chosen: Reconquista. It is very symbolic, and expresses the need to recover language and aesthetics, form and content, in times where the ideas of the Nation, of the people and democracy are in strong dispute.”
“You are a leader who expresses idea and territory, conviction and management. It is very difficult to articulate conviction and government management. Perhaps the most difficult thing is without a doubt to be able to bring into the daily practice of government what we think about politics, Peronism, society, our country and our responsibilities. You are that: a leader with ideological, management and practical responsibility. So this space that you are inaugurating is going to be very good. And it makes me very happy to see you at the helm again. A huge kiss and hug for you and for all the colleagues who have surely come today to celebrate this new political space.”
The marshal’s staff and bridges for Peronism
At a press conference, Fernández answered questions from the media, including Time. There the mayor confirmed that this inauguration implies both a launch and a tool to build bridges within Peronism. “They are both things because it seems important to me that in Peronism there are already proposals, they begin to tour the province of Buenos Aires, but that is not only the objective of a candidacy, but also to be able to be in dialogue with a number of militants and the people in general, who are looking for a bit of a way out of what they are experiencing,” he remarked.
She also thanked the Peronist leadership that accompanied her and reiterated that in this new space, along with political activities, “there will be a cultural proposal to accompany, book presentations. Well, many militant meetings mainly, and it will also be a central device for the assembly of the Reconquista political space of the Province of Buenos Aires.”
Likewise, for those who do not know in depth his management in the Municipality of Moreno, he noted that his way of governing begins “first by managing the State’s resources very well, honestly. And then there is a back and forth.” Also, she pointed out that the fact of coming from community construction, popular movements, and being a woman has a plus. “There is a caring approach to the organization. First, managing the State’s resources very well in an honest manner. And then there is a back and forth. In the management, in the participation of the neighborhood, in the different proposals for participation in the State as well. I always say, there is no way for you to resolve everything with the State if there is no real participation of the people as well,” said Fernández.
Finally, Fernández pointed out Time that the message of the Reconquista political space for Peronism is “participation. What we cannot do is be as spectators watching what happens and do nothing. In other words, we have to move, act. And well, that is work too, it is a lot of work. We have to assume that role, grab the marshal’s baton and go out to build.”
Without a doubt, this Monday Mariel Fernández went out to look for that “marshal’s baton” towards a more unified Peronism for the Province of Buenos Aires.
