They demand answers for the removal of food and the cut of .3 billion in Buenos Aires school feeding

Logic indicates that in times of crisis is when the State should be most present, especially in the sectors that are having the worst time. But many agree that this logic is very far from those who govern for the wealthiest sectors as happens at the national level and in the City of Buenos Aires.

It is not coincidental. Both governments (PRO and LLA) form a political alliance since the beginning of 2024, when they established to deepen the adjustments in educational, health, social development, layoffs and elimination of some organisms, as this media pointed out on several occasions. One of the sectors with the greatest number of cuts in the City is education and, especially, the health system. school feeding who in recent weeks suffered a strong adjustment of more than 3,300 million pesos and the removes from breakfast and lunch in Boys’ Clubs.

The latter was presented by the Buenos Aires representative Maru Bielli, from Fuerza por Buenos Aires (FxBA), who asks the GCBA to report the nutritional and pedagogical reasons why the Breakfasts and lunches from the Boys Club program; detailing the enrollment of the 32 Children’s Activities Centers (CAI) locations, the teaching staff of each of them and the employment status of the teachers.

As reported by this medium at the beginning of 2026the Buenos Aires Ministry of Education published resolution 153 that proposes «new “guidelines for the implementation of socio-educational policy”in which a series of responsibilities of the application authority are disaggregated over the area, emphasizing the possibility of reorganizing and refunctionalizing the headquarters, the teaching staff and the resources according to management objectives.

“Under this argument of “reorganization and refunctionalization”, measures are being carried out that violate both the labor rights of teachers such as the right to educationaccompaniment and assistance to the most vulnerable communities,” says Bielli in the foundations of the Request for Reports.

The FxBA representative points out that “in a complex economic context for families, the City’s educational portfolio removes breakfast and lunch from boys and girls who attended the Boys’ Club program on Saturdays, replacing nutritionally prepared food dishes with cold meals consisting mainly of sandwiches. The change in nutrition for this program is inexplicable, which, as explained in the aforementioned guidelines, are educational proposals for educational areas or communities with greater indicators of socioeconomic vulnerability or inequality.”

For its part, the Left and Workers Front (FIT) presented another request for reports for the cut of more than $3.3 billion from the budget for school meals and for the elimination of the position of “inclusion references in middle schools” who collaborated with families and students so that they could register for scholarships.

Among the explanations, it requests the reasons for the cut of more than $3.3 billion in Program 51 of Food Assistance and Social Action, specifying what destination was given to the budget item cut in school feeding and whether said funds were transferred to other areas of the Ministry of Education or to official advertising.

“The request for reports aims to make transparent the adjustment that Jorge Macri’s government is dumping on the City’s children.. While food inflation does not let up, the Executive has decided to cut more than $3.3 billion of the budget allocated to school meals in less than a week”, reflects in the arguments the MP Vanina Biasi who presented the document in the Buenos Aires Legislature.

Biasi recalls that this adjustment was materialized through resolutions of the Ministry of Finance (such as 50/SSH/26), which remove resources from Program 51, in charge of guaranteeing a plate of food in public schools. “This defunding occurs in parallel with complaints from families and teachers about the poor quality of the food.which often arrive in poor condition or with insufficient portions,” he added.
