The morning after the red carpet, far from the vertigo of flashes and cameras, Luisana Lopilato changes pace. In a café in Nordelta, with the calm of someone returning to his axis, he sits down to chat hand in hand with Clarion.
On the other side of the table there are no characters or scripts: there is a relaxed woman, with coffee with almond milk in hand, who speaks with the same naturalness with which she moves between international sets and family life.
He is in Argentina for the premiere of The blue boxa film that marks a turning point in his career. It is her debut as a producer. The talk flows without rush. While her children are waiting for her at home to have Milanese lunch, she allows herself this time to reflect on her professional and personal present.
-Why did you decide to start producing with The blue box?
-Yes ok The blue box It is the first film that I was a producer of that is released, the first experience I had was with Pepita, the holster, It’s coming out now at the end of the year, let’s hope. It is a path that opened because the projects that I wanted to do did not reach me. I was excited about the idea of going after my own projects. They had pigeonholed me into something and I think they thought I couldn’t do anything else. They always called me for the same roles. I think producing came with age, because of the years I have been in this medium, which makes me want to do something different.

-Everything takes a long time. I was behind Pepita’s story for five years until it was made. I carried it for a long time. And when I was finally on set I couldn’t believe it. The same thing happened with The blue box.
A new role, the same drive
-In the two projects you produce you are seen in challenging, stronger roles with dark and police overtones. Do you think the public accepts that you are no longer the girl on TV who did comedy and youth series?
-I don’t think it will cost them. I have the answer in the street. I go to the supermarket and I meet people who saw the last movies I made and they tell me they loved them. A film takes so much work… And I also understand that not all of them are for everyone.
-Do you deny your past?
-Not at all. I think transition only comes from growing up and the desire to do something new. It’s part of becoming the woman I am today, which is not the same as twenty years ago. I want to perfect myself in what I do. He does a lot of work with a coach acting. I try to arrive on set prepared and with the perfect lyrics.

-Completely. Being part of Cris Morena’s projects was the best school I had. That made me who I am. Everything I did in the past made me who I am. And today the things I do make me happy. I’m at a stage in my life where all I want is to be happy, on and off the set.
-A little thanks to all that history, today you can choose what projects to do too…
-It’s a compliment that you can see him like that. I’m 38 years old, I’ll turn 39 in May. But I feel 18, I have to confess. I walk with my children down the street and they see the love of the people. Because I receive a lot of love on the street. My children ask me “what does it feel like to have everyone hug you and love you?”. And I explain to them that I grew up in those people’s houses. I grew up on TV. That’s why they feel like they’ve known me all their lives. One ends up being part of all families.
-Have you already closed the door on projects that have to do with comedy or youth?
-No not at all. I am behind the production of a project in Canada that is a youth film. I don’t act there, I just produce. But it’s for kids and I love it. I’m very “never say never”.
Although she has recently focused on mature and dark roles, Luisana Lopilato does not close the door on comedy. Photo: Amazon Press.-And do you feel like doing theater?
-I don’t lack desire but it gets complicated because the kids go to school. Sometimes it’s a little difficult. But I don’t know, for a short season in the future, who knows, when they are a little older. Now they need us a lot.
-With Married with children you could, so…
-And I never thought Paola Argento would do it again and it happened. I had a lot of fun. It was incredible to work again with my brother, with Guille, with Flor and Marcelo. I have the best memories of that time. Every time we see each other the relationship is intact. I was going to continue, but the reality is that I have other things to take care of. It’s part of growing up. I have to be a good mother, a good wife, a good daughter, a good friend… And it is very difficult to be everywhere. I’m going to answer like Mia Colucci (her leading character in Rebelde Way): “How difficult it is to be me.”

Between vocation and family
-Do your children get along well with your fame and that of their father (singer Michael Bublé, an international star)?
-I think they enjoy it. They accompany me a lot. I am what I am thanks to my family. The hours of filming are saved, while I’m not there. But they are always a very intense couple of months and afterwards I am always with them.
Luisana Lopilato chooses not to expose her children too much on social networks. Photo: Instagram-You chose not to show them so much on networks. How do they make that decision and how do they continue to protect themselves from the B side of technology?
-It is a difficult topic. We made the decision for them. They never wanted to appear or take photos. Now that they are growing we will see what happens. But the decision was theirs. I think that if you have to be of legal age to drive, you would also have to be of legal age to use social networks. I use them to work. But I understand that it can take you to very dark places too. At the moment none of my children have a phone.
-Not for now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to sustain it like this until they turn 16, because they’re going to ask me for it sooner or later. But I’m going to keep you away from that for as long as possible. Meanwhile at home these issues are talked about.
-Did anyone ask to go to castings or start turning to the artistic world?
-At the moment, no. They like to sing, play the piano… They sing very well. They are still small. If they decide to do it, I would accompany them. I would be with them in what makes them happy. Now they are more involved in the sport. They play soccer, lacrosse, my middle daughter is very good at gymnastics. Let’s see what they choose. The important thing now is that they study to open up the panorama.
Argentina always present
-Did it cost you a lot to uproot yourself when you went to live in Canada?
-The truth is that I did not experience it as an uprooting. I am very Argentine. They can take me out of Argentina, but they can’t take Argentina out of me. My parents sometimes come to visit and stay for six or eight months. My brothers travel twice a year. I travel to Argentina twice a year. In that sense I am very lucky. And my children came out very Argentine too.

-They speak perfect Spanish. I am Argentine even with the gestures. It was a job I did with Mike. For him it was always very important that I transmit my culture to the kids. I always spoke to them in Spanish, even in front of people who don’t understand us. The friends I made there already know that I am not speaking badly of them.
-Do you have a mommy chat in Canada?
-Yes, I have incredible groups and they are very good people. It’s very important, because we take turns taking the kids. I have four and sometimes my schedules get mixed up and I don’t get to take any of them. There the other parents help me a lot. Luckily I was able to set up very good mommy chats. You don’t know how much they help me.

-It doesn’t bother me at all. Mike is my family. I am proud of everything he does. I see it as if we were one. Sometimes I use the name outside. I call to make a reservation and use the “Miss Bublé” badge.
-Apart from that, changing your last name and changing your married name is very common over there.
-There everyone changes it. I legally did not do it, because it is not customary in my family. At some point I thought about it, but because of the passports. Sometimes I traveled with my Italian passport, and my children with the Canadian one, but at the same time I had the Italian and the Argentine passport and they looked at us strangely or asked us too many questions. But the truth is that so many years have passed that it already gives me confidence. Plus I’d have to change a lot of roles. But I do use it on a daily basis to keep myself busy there.
-And do you get the privilege because of the last name or not?
-The truth is, most of the time, no. There they don’t care if you’re Bublé.
Luisana Lopilato lives Michael Bublé’s fame calmly and admits that, sometimes, she uses it to her advantage. Photo: Instagram-Is he aware that perhaps there are people here who knew him because of you?
-Yes, and I think the same thing happens to you with that topic as it does to me. Sometimes he says “I’m Michael Lopilato.” Especially when we are here.
-I think the only time in Argentina they called you “Michael Bublé’s wife” was when Harry Styles mentioned you during his show in Vélez with One Direction and people went crazy. Do you remember?
-I didn’t remember it was Harry. I thought it was Niall Horan. I have to confess that they told me, that I never saw the video. I’m leaving here and I’m going to look for him.

-You’re right. That photo was quite a topic because later cousins, friends and children from all over the world started asking me to get them greetings from One Direction. And I never asked them because I’m very ashamed.
-Yes, a lot. We see them sometimes. When we travel to London or New York we coordinate. They call each other and have lunch with Mike when they can. With Niall they were as jurors in The Voice and again we met again.
