“Minister Mercedes Miguel approaches the school to receive the new authorities and, oh coincidence!!, after it is removed, a truck arrives with a pressure washer and erases all this beautiful intervention that we had carried out with the families, with neighborhood neighbors, with the entire educational community and with our sons and daughters,” he told Time Fernanda, mother of a child who attends the institution.
In addition to the Mothers’ handkerchiefs, the tiles were painted with the phrase “Memory, Truth and Justice, there are 30,000” and “Never Again”. Families and neighbors came to participate in the graffiti at the initiative of the school cooperator.
“It is very strange that just on a day of heavy raina truck comes with a pressure washer and cleans the sidewalks, and right where the graffiti we made were. I sent an email asking the school for explanations of what had happened, but I still did not receive answers,” added Fernanda.
From the cooperator of the República de Colombia School they told this medium that “Before doing the graffiti, we had requested through the cooperator to allow us to use the bathrooms.” and the school entrance hallso that the kids could wash their hands or go to the bathroom while we did the work. But the supervision ended up denying us authorization,” said a member of the cooperative who asked to withhold his name for fear of reprisals.
The excuse for supervision was with little credible arguments but widely used by those who command the school district.: “They apologized for the time it took us to send the request,” he added.
Time contacted the Ministry of Education headed by Mercedes Miguel to know their version of the events, but until the publication of this note they did not respond to our query.
It’s not the first time
These events were repeated on several occasions. Coincidentally in murals and graffiti that commemorated the coup d’état. In March 2024, this medium put on the agenda a similar event that occurred in the month of Memory, for Truth and Justiceand after the massive mobilization of March 24.
A group of people vandalized the white scarves of the Mothers and several tiles in memory of two Buenos Aires schools. On that occasion, the incident occurred at the Interdisciplinary Comprehensive School No. 6 DE 6° of Special Education.
This educational establishment is also located in the Boedo neighborhood, and receives students among the 6 and 14 years old who present difficulties in the learning process and require flexibility in teaching. In these schools, a transitory nature is promoted in this modality, with the objective of entering or re-entering the common modality of the Primary Level.
Almost synchronouslyanother group of people also vandalized the memory tiles located at the entrance of the Normal School No. 6 in the Palermo neighborhood. “These facts are a clear positioning that is correlated with the denialist and vindictive speeches of the civic, military, ecclesiastical and business dictatorship that the Milei and Villarruel government has installed,” highlighted a statement from the UTE teaching union at that time.
